The 360-Degree Victory Lap: TWICE at the United Center

Jude · 2026-04-08 · United Center

If you were anywhere near the West Side this past Monday or Tuesday, you felt the tectonic shift. TWICE didn’t just play the United Center (April 6–7, 2026); they essentially annexed it. Following their historic Lollapalooza headline set last summer, these two nights felt like a massive, glittering victory lap for a group that has officially transcended the "K-pop" label to become a global touring juggernaut.

I’ve seen plenty of arena shows, but the THIS IS FOR World Tour setup is genuinely ambitious. They opted for an in-the-round 360-degree stage, which turned the cavernous United Center into something that felt strangely intimate. There was nowhere to hide, and for nine women who have been doing this for a decade, that’s exactly how they wanted it.

The Breakdown: Hits, Remixed

The show followed a tight four-act structure, but it didn't feel clinical.

  • Act I & II: They came out swinging with "Strategy" and "I Can’t Stop Me." The highlight for me, though, was the hard-edged remix of "Cry For Me." It shifted the room’s temperature from "bubblegum pop" to something much darker and more cinematic. By the time they hit "Right Hand Girl," the crowd—the "ONCE" fandom—was vibrating.

  • Act III: The Solo/Unit Stages: This is where the individual personalities actually got to breathe. Jeongyeon’s "Fix A Drink" was a personal favorite—she came out in a white cowgirl hat and bedazzled chaps, leaning into a country-pop aesthetic that the Chicago crowd absolutely ate up.

  • The "Takedown" Moment: The loudest point of the night, hands down, was the unit stage for "TAKEDOWN" (from the K-Pop Demon Hunters soundtrack). Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung performed it with a grit that you don't always see on the main group tracks. It felt like a statement.

The 10-Year Nostalgia Trip

The final act was a relentless barrage of the classics: "Fancy," "What is Love?," and "Feel Special." Hearing 23,000 people scream-sing the chorus to "What is Love?" is enough to make even the most cynical music critic crack a smile.

What struck me most was the encore. In true TWICE fashion, it was chaotic and unscripted. They used a spinning wheel to pick songs, and the interaction between the members and the fans felt genuine. It didn't have the "over-rehearsed" feel that can sometimes plague stadium pop.

Why It Matters

Chicago has become a reliable anchor for these global tours. We aren't just a midwest stopover; we are a litmus test. TWICE headlined Lollapalooza, then came back and sold out two nights in the city's biggest arena with a 360-stage. That tells you everything you need to know about where this band sits in the cultural hierarchy.

They’ve grown up, their sound has toughened up, and the United Center was the perfect place to witness the evolution.

Were you in the "Candybong" glowing crowd for this one, or did you sit this one out?
